Sugar Snails

Posted on January 12, 2026 By admin No Comments on Sugar Snails

Sugar Snails are a simple, old-fashioned sweet treat made with soft white bread rolled up with a creamy cinnamon-sugar filling, then baked in melted butter until golden and irresistible. Crispy on the outside and tender on the inside, these rolls are perfect for breakfast, brunch, or an easy dessert.

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf white sandwich bread, sliced

  • 1 (8 oz) package cream cheese, room temperature

  • 1 large egg

  • ¾ cup granulated sugar, divided

  • 1½ teaspoons ground cinnamon

  • ½ cup butter, melted

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Oven

Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Lightly grease a baking dish large enough to hold the rolls in a single layer.

Step 2: Prepare the Bread

Trim the crusts off the bread slices if desired. Using a rolling pin, flatten each slice of bread until thin and flexible.

Step 3: Make the Filling

In a bowl, mix together the cream cheese, egg, and ½ cup of the sugar until smooth and creamy.

In a separate small bowl, combine the remaining ¼ cup sugar with the cinnamon.

Step 4: Assemble the Sugar Snails

Spread a thin layer of the cream cheese mixture over each flattened slice of bread. Sprinkle lightly with the cinnamon-sugar mixture.

Roll each slice tightly into a spiral, seam side down.

Step 5: Butter and Bake

Dip each rolled bread spiral into the melted butter, coating well, and place into the prepared baking dish.

Bake for 25–30 minutes, or until the rolls are golden brown and slightly crisp on the outside.

Step 6: Serve

Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before serving. Enjoy warm.

Tips for Best Results

  • Use soft, fresh bread for easy rolling

  • Don’t overfill, or the filling may leak out

  • Serve warm for the best texture and flavor

Serving Suggestions

Serve Sugar Snails:

  • With coffee or tea

  • As a sweet brunch item

  • With a drizzle of icing or powdered sugar

  • Alongside fresh fruit

Storage

Store leftovers in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days. Reheat gently in the oven or microwave before serving.
