This traditional Turkish bread is soft on the inside with a lightly crisp crust on the outside. Simple ingredients and an easy method make it perfect for everyday meals. Serve it warm with olive oil, cheese, soups, or grilled dishes.
Ingredients
-
3 cups all-purpose flour
-
1 teaspoon sugar
-
1 teaspoon salt
-
½ teaspoon active dry yeast
-
1 cup hot water (not boiling)
-
2 tablespoons olive oil
-
Sesame seeds, optional
Preparation
Step 1: Make the Dough
In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Mix well.
Gradually add the hot water and olive oil, stirring until the dough begins to come together.
Step 2: Knead
Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface. Knead for about 10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.
Step 3: First Rise
Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl. Cover with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
Step 4: Shape the Bread
Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
Punch down the risen dough and shape it into a round loaf. Place it on a greased baking sheet.
Using a sharp knife, make a few shallow cuts on the top. Sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired.
Step 5: Bake
Bake for 18–22 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.
