Turkish Bread Recipe

Posted on January 13, 2026 By admin No Comments on Turkish Bread Recipe

This traditional Turkish bread is soft on the inside with a lightly crisp crust on the outside. Simple ingredients and an easy method make it perfect for everyday meals. Serve it warm with olive oil, cheese, soups, or grilled dishes.

Ingredients

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon sugar

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • ½ teaspoon active dry yeast

  • 1 cup hot water (not boiling)

  • 2 tablespoons olive oil

  • Sesame seeds, optional

Preparation

Step 1: Make the Dough

In a large bowl, combine the flour, sugar, salt, and yeast. Mix well.

Gradually add the hot water and olive oil, stirring until the dough begins to come together.

Step 2: Knead

Transfer the dough to a lightly floured surface. Knead for about 10 minutes, until smooth and elastic.

Step 3: First Rise

Place the dough in a lightly greased bowl. Cover with a clean kitchen towel and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour, or until doubled in size.

Step 4: Shape the Bread

Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).

Punch down the risen dough and shape it into a round loaf. Place it on a greased baking sheet.

Using a sharp knife, make a few shallow cuts on the top. Sprinkle with sesame seeds if desired.

Step 5: Bake

Bake for 18–22 minutes, or until the bread is golden brown and sounds hollow when tapped on the bottom.

Tips for Best Results

  • Water should be hot but not boiling to avoid killing the yeast

  • Let the bread cool slightly before slicing

  • Brush with olive oil after baking for extra softness

Serving Suggestions

Serve Turkish bread with:

  • Olive oil and herbs

  • Cheese and olives

  • Soups and stews

  • Grilled meats or vegetables

Storage

Store at room temperature in a cloth bag or airtight container for up to 2 days. Reheat briefly in the oven before serving.
