Stuffed Cabbage Rolls

Description:
Stuffed cabbage rolls are a classic comfort dish made with tender cabbage leaves wrapped around a savory filling of ground meat, rice, and seasonings, then slowly baked or simmered in a rich tomato sauce. They’re hearty, flavorful, and perfect for family dinners or special occasions.

Ingredients

Cabbage

  • 1 large head green cabbage

Filling

  • 1 pound ground beef (or beef and pork mix)

  • 1 cup cooked rice

  • 1 small onion, finely chopped

  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

  • 1 large egg

  • 1 teaspoon salt

  • ½ teaspoon black pepper

  • 1 teaspoon paprika

Sauce

  • 1 can (15 oz) tomato sauce

  • 1 can (14.5 oz) diced tomatoes

  • 1 tablespoon brown sugar

  • 1 teaspoon Worcestershire sauce

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).

  2. Bring a large pot of water to a boil. Carefully remove cabbage leaves and blanch for 2–3 minutes until softened. Drain.

  3. In a large bowl, mix ground meat, cooked rice, onion, garlic, egg, salt, pepper, and paprika.

  4. Place about ¼ cup filling in the center of each cabbage leaf. Roll tightly, tucking in the sides.

  5. Spread a small amount of sauce in the bottom of a baking dish.

  6. Arrange cabbage rolls seam-side down in the dish.

  7. Mix tomato sauce, diced tomatoes, brown sugar, and Worcestershire sauce. Pour over the rolls.

  8. Cover tightly with foil and bake for 75–90 minutes until cabbage is tender and filling is cooked through.

  9. Let rest 10 minutes before serving.

Tips and Variations

  • Use ground turkey for a lighter option.

  • Add sauerkraut to the sauce for a traditional twist.

  • These rolls freeze and reheat well.
