Ham and Cheese Puff Pastry Pinwheels are a classic crowd-pleasing appetizer that’s as easy to prepare as it is delicious. Flaky, golden puff pastry wrapped around savory ham and melted cheese makes these pinwheels perfect for parties, holiday gatherings, brunches, or a quick snack. With just a handful of ingredients, you can have an impressive bite-sized treat ready in under 30 minutes.
Ingredients
-
1 sheet puff pastry (about 250 g), thawed
-
150 g ham (about 6 thin slices)
-
1 cup shredded cheese (cheddar, mozzarella, or your choice)
-
1 tablespoon mustard (optional)
-
1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
-
½ teaspoon dried herbs (oregano or thyme, optional)
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 200°C (400°F). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Step 2: Prepare the Puff Pastry
On a lightly floured surface, gently roll out the thawed puff pastry sheet to smooth it into an even rectangle.
Step 3: Add the Filling
If using mustard, spread a thin, even layer over the surface of the pastry.
Layer the ham slices evenly over the pastry, then sprinkle the shredded cheese on top.
Finish with dried herbs if desired.
Step 4: Roll and Slice
Starting from one long edge, roll the pastry tightly into a log.
Using a sharp knife, slice the log into 12 equal pinwheels, about 1 inch thick.
Step 5: Assemble
Place the pinwheels flat-side down on the prepared baking sheet, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
Brush the tops with beaten egg to ensure a golden finish.
Step 6: Bake
Bake for 18–20 minutes, or until the pinwheels are puffed, golden brown, and cooked through.
Step 7: Serve
Remove from the oven and allow to cool slightly before serving. Serve warm or at room temperature.
