½ cup raisins (optional)

½ cup chopped walnuts or pecans (optional)
Strudel

8 sheets phyllo dough, thawed

½ cup unsalted butter, melted

½ cup plain breadcrumbs
Instructions

Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.

In a bowl, combine apples, sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg, lemon juice, raisins, and nuts.

Lay one sheet of phyllo dough on a clean surface and brush lightly with melted butter. Repeat layering until all sheets are stacked.

Sprinkle breadcrumbs evenly over the phyllo, leaving a 2-inch border on all sides.

Spread apple filling evenly over breadcrumbs.

Fold sides inward, then roll tightly from one end to form a log.

Transfer strudel seam-side down to prepared baking sheet.

Brush top with remaining butter.
