Applesauce Bread

Description:
Applesauce bread is a moist, tender quick bread with warm cinnamon spice and natural sweetness from applesauce. It’s simple to make, lower in fat than many quick breads, and perfect for breakfast, snacking, or dessert.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour

  • 1 teaspoon baking soda

  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon

  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg

  • ½ teaspoon salt

  • ½ cup granulated sugar

  • ½ cup brown sugar, packed

  • ½ cup vegetable oil or melted butter

  • 2 large eggs

  • 1½ cups unsweetened applesauce

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

  • ½ cup chopped walnuts or raisins (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9×5-inch loaf pan.

  2. In a bowl, whisk flour, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.

  3. In a separate bowl, mix sugars, oil, and eggs until well combined.

  4. Stir in applesauce and vanilla.

  5. Gradually add dry ingredients to wet ingredients, mixing just until combined.

  6. Fold in nuts or raisins if using.

  7. Pour batter into prepared loaf pan.

  8. Bake for 50–60 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.

  9. Cool in pan 10 minutes, then remove to a wire rack to cool completely.

Tips and Variations

  • Use cinnamon applesauce for extra flavor.

  • Add a streusel topping for a bakery-style loaf.

  • This bread freezes well for up to 3 months.
