Hog Pogs

Posted on January 11, 2026 By admin No Comments on Hog Pogs

Hog Pogs are a simple, savory appetizer you’ll make again and again. With just four ingredients and no chopping or pre-cooking, these creamy sausage-topped toasts come together quickly and disappear even faster at parties. They’re crispy on the edges and rich in flavor — the perfect easy starter or snack that always hits.

Ingredients

  • 1 loaf French bread, sliced

  • 1 lb ground Italian sausage

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened

  • ½ cup grated Parmesan cheese

  • Kosher salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven
Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or foil and set aside.

  2. Make the Sausage Spread
In a medium bowl, combine the ground Italian sausage and softened cream cheese. Mix well until fully combined and cohesive. Add the grated Parmesan cheese and stir again. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.

  3. Prepare the Bread
Slice the French bread into rounds or diagonals, about ½-inch thick. Spread a thin layer of the sausage mixture on each slice of bread, dividing the mixture evenly.

  4. Bake
Arrange the topped bread slices on the prepared baking sheet. Bake in the preheated oven for about 15 minutes, until the sausage is cooked through and the edges of the bread begin to brown.

  5. Broil (Optional)
For extra crispiness and golden color, place the toasts under the broiler for 1–2 minutes. Keep a close eye so they don’t burn.

  6. Serve
Remove from the oven and serve warm. These are best enjoyed fresh!

Tips

  • Make the sausage spread ahead of time and keep it chilled until ready to assemble.

  • Use a sturdy bread like French or Italian loaf so the toasts hold up well under the topping.

  • Add a sprinkle of extra Parmesan on top before baking for a cheesier finish.

Serving Suggestions

Serve Hog Pogs as an appetizer or party snack with:

  • A side of marinara or ranch for dipping

  • Fresh salad or crudité plate

  • Mixed olives and pickles for a snack board

Storage

Store leftover Hog Pogs in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 days. Reheat in the oven or toaster oven until warmed through and crispy again.
